ARACKAPARAMBIL KURIAN ANTONY is the current Defence Minister of India. He is a former Chief Minister of Kerala, having served in that post three times When he became Chief Minister in 1977, he was the youngest Chief Minister of the State. He was the Leader of Opposition in Kerala Legislative Assembly during 1996 to 2001. His supporters often refer to him as the “Mr.Clean of Indian Politics”.
In 2005, A.K. Antony was appointed the Union Cabinet Minister for Defence. He is a member of the Rajya Sabha. Earlier he was the member of the House from 1985 to 91 and 1991 to 1995 and was the Minister for Civil Supplies, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution in the Narasimha Rao ministry in the later period.
He was born on 28 December 1940 into Arackaparambil, a devout Syro Malabar Catholic family inCherthala. Kurian Pillai and Elikutty were his parents. Antony completed his primary education in Government High school, Cherthala and completed his B.A. degree from Maharajas College ,Ernakulam and BL from Government Law College, Eranakulam.He briefly worked as an LIC agent.
